Week in review 23-29 June -- What are my excuses? Let me count the ways

I knew this week was going to be a wash since I was out of town on a work trip for the first half, but still — Ugh.

We had a personal thing take up more of the day than expected Saturday, and had an afternoon thing with friends on Sunday, so... weekend training was pretty spotty, too. Throw in some thunderstorms and me feeling sick Sunday night and I was feeling pretty lucky to get in any training at all. I feel like I'm just providing a litany of excuses at this point.

The plus side is that I am feeling better and had a killer swim this morning, and got to swim in a new-to-me pool this weekend.

Swim: Twice for a total of about 1.5 hours. Once at my usual pool, and then once at a new-to-me outdoor pool after I got restless just lounging in the sun with my drink. ☺

Bike: Two trainer sessions of an hour an a half each, for 3 hours total.

Run: One easy run of about 50 minutes.

Other: Nothing.

Total: About 5.5 hours.

Nothing to write home about, so we'll call it a stepback week and move on. It's a new week and almost a new month, so all I need is a new attitude to match, right?

This week will be wash

Alternate title: Why do I bother bringing running stuff when I travel?

Well, I knew I'd be out of town for the first half of the week. I had brought my running shoes and clothes with me, but it just didn't happen. I was busy literally all day with work stuff.

I was able to get in both a ride on the trainer and a run today, so that's something.

I have been feeling like I need to kick myself in the pants as far as getting serious about training and especially eating lately. I had my fun in New York, and now I need to buckle down and maybe even lose a few pounds for my summer and fall races. I'm looking at doing an open-water event in about a week and a half, so I should probably be limiting the junk food until then, huh?

Of course, about five minutes after I had this epiphany, I almost texted my husband to bring home french fries. But I didn't. Small victories, right?

Week in review 16-22 June -- Finishing strong

I’m out of town again, so it was a priority to get in a solid week of training beforehand.

The nice, quiet lake I swim across and back. That's not me in the pic.
I got thunderstormed out of the pool one morning this week, and work situations prevented me from running in the evening. However, I got a solid training day in on Saturday with both a lake swim and my longest bike ride to date, and ran 12 miles before I left town today.

Swim: Three sessions, two in the pool and one OWS, for a total of about 2 and a half hours.

Pretty sure this is a personal distance record.
Bike: Three sessions, twice on the indoor trainer and once on the road, for a total of about 5 and a half hours. The road ride was just longer than 3 hours for a pretty hilly 46.5 miles, which I’m pretty sure is a personal distance record.

Run: Three sessions, all outside, for a total of about 3 and a half hours. I would have liked to get in a few more short runs during the week, especially a speed run, but I’m happy I squeezed in my long run before I headed out of town.

Other: One brisk walk, one round of ankle pre-hab, one weights video, and some stretching for a total of about 2 and a half hours. I would have liked to do more pre-hab, but I can’t complain that I was able to fit in a little bit of everything.

Total: About 14 hours, which isn't quite my best week but a very good week for me.

Here are some pie charts, just because I haven't done it in a while:

My week this week. Not too shabby.

Average 70.3 times for my age group.

I won’t be able to train regularly this week, so it’ll be reduced volume by necessity. But, at least my legs are going to enjoy their time off.
